2021 Conservation Poster Contest Winners Announced
May 19, 2021 -- Congratulations to four CCS students whose artwork about healthy forests and healthy communities were selected winners in the 2021 Franklin Soil and Water Conservation District Poster Contest.
More than 900 students from grades Pre K - 12 from six different school districts participated in the poster contest. The theme this year focused on the importance of trees, how they absorb carbon from the atmosphere, stabilize the soil, filter water and provide healthy habitats for wildlife.
Here are the CCS students who won the Conservation poster contest this year:
Grades Pre K - 2
First-place: Jaylen Wilson, 2nd grade, Leawood Elementary School
Second-place: Ariel Thompson, 2nd grade, Leawood Elementary School
Honorable Mention: Ayanae Braggs, 2nd Grade, East Columbus Elementary School
Grades 9 - 12
Third-place: Emerson Lepicki, Columbus Alternative High School
With the mixture of blended, in-class, and remote learning this past year, the Franklin Soil and Water Conservation District appreciates the extra effort both teachers and students provided to submit their artwork for the poster contest. The Conservation Poster Contest is an annual event sponsored by Soil and Water Conservation Districts across the country to provide young people a better appreciation for the environment through artwork.
