Columbus Alternative High School Named to 2024 Advanced Placement School Honor Roll
October 31, 2024 - Columbus Alternative High School (CAHS) received an honor for its students' success in the Advanced Placement (AP) program and was named to the 2024 AP School Honor Roll with a Bronze distinction.
“CAHS has always provided a culture and climate that challenges students to transcend mediocrity and embrace academic excellence,” said Principal Dr. Darryl Sanders.
The AP School Honor Roll acknowledges schools that achieve strong results in their AP programs while expanding students' access to greater opportunities.
Schools can receive “Honor Roll” recognition each year by fostering a college-going culture, offering students opportunities to earn college credit, and enhancing college readiness. The AP School Honor Roll features four distinction levels: Bronze, Silver, Gold, and Platinum.
During the 2023-2024 school year, 54% of seniors took at least one AP exam throughout their high school experience, while 2% of those seniors took five or more AP exams. In addition, 27% of those seniors scored three or higher on at least one AP exam.
Fifty-four percent of CAHS seniors who took at least one AP exam during high school, 27% scoring three or higher on at least one AP exam, and 2% taking five or more AP exams.
“The students who enter four-year colleges with credit from AP accelerate their path to graduation and build confidence for college success,” said Trevor Packer, Senior Vice President of AP and Instruction for College Board. “AP coursework provides early exposure to college-level work and contributes to a college-going school culture.”
The College Board's Advanced Placement Program allows students to engage in college-level coursework while still in high school, offering the chance to earn college credit, advanced placement, or both. With AP courses available in 38 subjects, each ending with a rigorous exam, students build essential skills in critical thinking, strong argumentation, and the ability to view issues from multiple perspectives—skills that prepare them for success in college and beyond.
