Eight Ways You Can Celebrate National Book Lovers Day
August 9, 2022 -- August 9th is National Book Lovers Day, and what better way to celebrate than by picking up a book? From contributing to brain development to increasing social-emotional development, the benefits of reading are unlimited.
According to the Ohio Department of Education, third graders throughout the state experienced a 22% reduction in reading proficiency during the Coronavirus Pandemic, from 67% in 2018-2019 to 51.9% in 2020-2021. Research shows that students who read at home daily for at least 20 minutes can increase language development, improve comprehension and critical thinking, develop global empathy, and strengthen family relationships.
Columbus City Schools is committed to empowering students to discover their love of reading and improving literacy skills across all grades. Our #TogetherWeReadCCS webpage has all the resources to support PreK-12 students and their families on their reading journey.
