We are excited to announce that our school has been awarded a “TeachArtsOhio” grant from the Ohio Arts Council for the 2024-2025 school year. This grant will provide our school with a “teaching artist” that will bring FLAMENCO dance to our students!

Why FLAMENCO DANCE? Our goal is to provide a bilingual “school” education for our students, (English & Spanish). However, to fully understand and embrace a second language, students must also learn about the culture that embodies the second language, Spanish. We want to "create a school wide movement where students, teachers, and families can develop a respect and understanding of the culture of Spain.” One way to do this is to bring a teaching artist to our school, Griset Dama-Roche.
Ms. Roche was born in Cuba. She was a primary dancer with the Spanish Balleto of Havana under Maestro Eduardo Veitia. In 2014 she moved with her family to Columbus, Ohio, where she has since become a key figure in the local arts community. She has a studio in Plain City, Ohio- “uwilldance,” where she teaches flamenco dance and ballet. She also teaches flamenco dance at the McConnell Arts Center in Worthington, Ohio. During the summers she is a guest instructor at BalletMet’s Intensive Summer programs. We are excited to welcome Ms. Roche to our school!
We are so very grateful to the Ohio Arts Council for this award! Without this award, we would not be able to bring flamenco dance to our students. We are looking forward to a wonderful, cultural experience for our students that we hope will help them become lifelong learners of the arts!

Stay tuned!
