• About Indianola Informal K-8:

Ours is an informal program. Teachers plan integrated units using Columbus City Schools’ curriculum and children’s interests to build authentic learning experiences. Together with students, they often plan “webs” that focus on a theme or central question to guide their learning. Visual arts, music and dance play a central role in our curriculum. Teachers work closely with the arts team to create and plan for thematic units, including sharing student work and performances

We are a Columbus City School. Admission is through a lottery.  Elementary and Middle School lottery applications will be accepted via the Parent Portal.  Visit the Columbus City Schools’ website for more information on School Choice. For the safety and security of our students and staff, prospective family visits will be limited to the dates and times posted on the Indianola calendar.

    Indianola Informal K-8 Vison Statement

We, the members of the Indianola Informal School community, believe that all children can achieve academic success.  We believe that children enter school as active learners eager to continue the learning process by working with staff, other children, parents and volunteers. To this end, we will provide opportunities where children learn by doing and by interacting with their environment. We will provide strong, positive teacher guidance so that children can take responsibility for their own learning.  We will provide opportunities for children to express their knowledge and talents through visual art, music, dance and drama. We will provide an environment which encourages mutual respect and cultural understanding. We believe that children learn best from people who are lifelong learners.  Therefore, we will continue providing opportunities for children and adults to learn simultaneously.
