A brief bio from our new principal, Alissa Horstman:
This is my 26th year in education. I graduated from The Ohio State University and spent my first 8 years of teaching in North Carolina (wow, I did not like hurricanes) for 1 year and California for 7 years (I did like living in the desert heat). I have been a middle school math and science teacher, a 4th grade self-contained teacher, curriculum coach, special education director and most recently, 9 years as an elementary principal for grades PK-5. I am passionate about education and helping all kids to succeed and find their passions. I believe my life experiences give me some varied perspectives and I am always looking for more. Outside of K-12 education, I earned my scuba diving license, taught math at the college level, earned my EMT license and volunteered for the local fire department and am generally willing to try new things to continue my learning. I am a devoted Buckeye fan and love attending football games. I am close with my family even though my parents live in “that state up North” and my sister lives in NYC. One positive thing that came out of the pandemic for me was learning to use zoom. Now my family has weekly zooms in between visits.
I already feel fortunate to be joining a wonderful school and community at Indian Springs Elementary.
