CCS Students Successfully and Safely Gear Up for First Day of School 2020
September 8, 2020 -- Back to school is in full swing for Columbus City Schools as students geared up all week in preparation for the first day of school on Tuesday, September 8.
“I’m so thankful to be able to come to Parkmoor and see the students and the wonderful principal and the staff,” said Superintendent Dr. Talisa Dixon. “They are excited, I’m excited. What a better way to start the school year by giving the students the supplies that they need to be successful.”
For the first time in months, students were able to see their teachers and principals in person when they arrived to pick up their school books to begin virtual learning. Math books, reading books, and Chromebooks are just a few items students received in their gear up kits.
At Parkmoor Elementary School, students also received additional learning materials to keep their minds growing once the computer screens are turned off for the day.
“I would love to talk to some of the kids and see how they felt now that they have their books, their learning kits, and their Chromebooks,” said Parkmoor Elementary School Principal Charmaine Campbell. “Something that they have always known as a part of their everyday life is coming back."
A few blocks away over at Woodward Park Middle School, 8th graders got the chance to see who their social studies and math teachers will be during the new school year.
This week was a mini-reunion for families, students, teachers, and principals. But what is more important, school families are excited to be back together again.
“It’s been so great to see them in person and their smiling faces, under the mask,” said Woodward Park Middle School Assistant Principal Kevin Jackson. “It has been great to see them and they are very excited to see us too.”
