World Language (Spanish)

  • The World Language program at AIMS allows students to explore and learn about the Spanish language and cultures. As part of the program, students can begin taking Spanish in 6th grade through a nine week course in which they are introduced to where the Spanish speaking world is, some of the language and cultures within the Spanish speaking communities.

As the program progresses, students in 7th grade are given the opportunity to take Intro to Spanish, which is a semester-long course that provides students with more details about the cultures and language, while also beginning to communicate in Spanish using themes related to student interests, such as sports, family, friends and food.

When students are in 8th grade, they take Spanish for the whole year. The benefit of that is students will also receive a high school credit for the course while working towards fulfilling the World Language requirement for admission to most colleges and universities, which is to have taken a minimum of two years of the same World Language prior to high school graduation. In Spanish I, students will be working to develop reading, writing, listening and speaking skills in Spanish. By the end of the school year, students should be able to complete simple communication tasks regarding known topics that they learned throughout the year.
