February 23, 2024 — Whetstone High School junior Noah Knostman has recently achieved a remarkable milestone in his basketball career by scoring his 1,000th point. Facing off against long-standing rival Franklin Heights, Whetstone fans were on the edge of their seats as Knostman showcased his skill and drive. 

"He has really worked for it," said Troy Mundy, head boys varsity coach at Whetstone. I met him when he was coming in as a freshman, and I would have never guessed he would [achieve this] as a junior. It is a rewarding feeling to watch him be rewarded. I am happy for him."

Knostman, who has been playing basketball since a young age, credits his teammates and coaches for helping him reach this milestone. From here, Knostman looks forward to college recruitment and continuing his passion for basketball into the next stage in his academic career. 

"I want to pick up college recruitment," Knostman said. I want to play at the next level, so that is a big part. I have looked at the Naval Academy, Denison, and Ohio Dominican."

Knostman's path reveals a deep commitment to both academics and athletics. Balancing his National Honor Society member role with AP classes, orchestra participation, and college-level coursework, he aspires to lead and motivate younger peers and teammates.

"He is a leader on and off the field." Liam Oliphant, Whetstone High School sophomore, said. He has great character and shows what it means to compete, not just to win, but also to be a good sportsman. In the classroom, he is always on top of things. There are many guys that need to see him do that because grades are a huge part of being eligible. We all can model off of his work ethic."

As the team celebrates Knostman and his success, it is clear that the team has big goals. Mundy and Knostman believe this achievement will help them stay motivated during the off-season and look forward to Knostman's leadership in his senior year.

"I feel like there's more good things to come," Mundy said. "I know he [Knostman] has more goals and I think this is the thing to get the train rolling. With this happening right now, this is the thing that will get us through the end of the year, and a good thing to get our program going into the off season and next season."

As Knostman continues in his successes, he hopes to inspire students like his younger brother at Dominion to show the importance of hard work and dedication. Knostman and the Braves are looking forward to next season, where they can continue challenging themselves to reach new heights in basketball and beyond.
