Educational and Master Facility Planning
The Columbus Board of Education will be asked to approve the contract for Educational Planning and Master Facility Planning Services to Legat Architects, Inc. The District is looking to modernize its educational facilities and create a facility master plan that considers:
- Adaptations to pedagogy (21st-century learning) that are needed to support education today and into the future
- Ohio Facilities Construction Commission (OFCC) requirements and coordination
- Facility condition and educational adequacy assessments of existing academic facilities
- Establishing budgets for the work
- Community engagement
A fee of $791,420.00 has been negotiated to complete educational planning and master facility planning services, including a 45% LEDE commitment.
Growing and Going Summer Experience
Franklin Park Conservatory will act as the design and implementation partner of our K-2 Growing and Going Summer experience. In collaboration with our Columbus City Schools Summer Design Team, Franklin Park Conservatory will design, develop, and support the implementation of standards-based, integrated, hands-on lessons, activities, and projects for six mini-camps inspired by the full camps offered at Franklin Park Conservatory. The Growing and Going Summer experience mini-camps will be provided at each of our 13 elementary summer school sites. Each week our K-2 students will engage with the Franklin Park Conservatory through in-person and virtual visits. The Growing and Going Summer experience students will also visit the Franklin Park Conservatory. Board Members will be asked to approve $74,376 out of the general fund for this Summer School experience.
Exploring and Excelling Summer Experience at COSI
Center of Science and Industry (COSI) will act as the design and implementation partner of our third through fifth grade Exploring and Excelling Summer experience. In collaboration with our Columbus City Schools Summer Design Team, the COSI Education Team will design, develop, and support the implementation (providing teacher and student materials) of the COSI-created, standards-based, integrated, hands-on lessons, activities, and projects for the six mini camps. COSI will provide professional development to summer school teachers before the program begins to support the facilitation of the lessons and activities.
The Exploring and Excelling Summer mini-camps will be offered at each of our 13 elementary summer school sites. Each week our third through fifth-grade students will engage with the COSI team through in-person and virtual visits. All the students in grades third through fifth will also visit COSI for the day. At the end of the mini-camp, each of our third through fifth-grade students will receive a take-home COSI kit to promote the continued exploration of science and family engagement. Board Members will be asked to approve $281,433 from the general fund for the COSI Exploring and Excelling Summer School experience.
