September 22, 2023 – Columbus City Schools (CCS) is proud to announce that multiple staff members were honored at this year’s Social Justice Awards.

Social Justice Awards is an annual luncheon honoring social justice leaders and their impacts on the community. Dr. Robert Murphy, District Ombudsman, and Diane Campbell, Principal Coach for Region I, were both recognized as award recipients. Campbell was recognized for Education Advocacy, and Dr. Murphy received a Special Tribute.Murphy

Dr. Murphy has worked in education for more than 40 years. Watching the students he works with succeed is incredibly rewarding, he said, and he is highly gratified to receive official recognition for doing what he loves.

“I’ve always believed that teaching isn’t what you do, it’s who you are,” said Dr. Murphy, who spent the first 14 years of his career in the classroom. “I love working with young people. The work I do is about touching young people’s lives, and it’s nice to be honored for that work.”

Like Dr. Murphy, Campbell agreed the most rewarding part of her  work is watCampbellching students grow and succeed.

She also highlighted the power of teamwork and the importance of coming together as a community to support the whole child.

“I have always believed in the importance of one community coming together to wrap our arms around each student,” Campbell said. “It is not the responsibility of just one person to help our students; it is work that we must do collaboratively to ensure our students reach their highest potential.”

In addition to Dr. Murphy and Campbell, CCS partner, I Know I Can, and former CCS family ambassador and founder of We Are Linden, Ralph Carter, were also recognized for their dedication to serving the community. Congratulations to all!
