Meeting Agenda Topics

The meeting agenda topics include:

12.2 - Supporting Whole-Child Focused, the Board will be asked to authorize the administration to enter into an agreement with School Specialty for SPIRE/Sound Sensible Curriculum Materials. SPIRE/Sound Sensible is a research-proven reading intervention program designed to help students who struggle with reading by providing them with intensive, structured, and spiraling instruction in key literacy skills. The program is designed to be used by intervention specialists, who work with small groups of students to provide individualized instruction and intervention/support. It incorporates a range of foundational skills, including phonological awareness, phonics, spelling, fluency, vocabulary, and comprehension, into a 10-step lesson plan that is implemented over a period of time.

15.2 - Supporting Authentic Engagement, the Board will be asked to authorize the administration to purchase upgraded dispatch hardware, software and installation to connect to the current radio system from REM Communications Inc. for the Transportation Department. The electronic communication system shall be capable of constant contact with the school or dispatch point. The current Transportation Department dispatching hardware and software will be obsolete due to systems no longer supporting Windows 10, as the District will transition to Windows 11 at the end of calendar year 2024. The current system and equipment will not operate on Windows 11.

17.1 - Supporting Equitable Opportunities for All, the Board will be asked to authorize the administration to recommend the Board of Education approve the general contract with Prodigy Building Solutions, LLC., and direct the Board President and Treasurer/CFO to execute the agreement. The Mifflin High School Renovations project entails renovations throughout the interiors of the facility, focused on the classroom environments and common spaces such as corridors, cafeteria, gymnasium and auditorium.  The work will entail replacement or significant upgrades to flooring, ceilings, walls, and casework.  It will also upgrade systems such as lighting, and paging, as well as auditorium and gymnasium sound and lighting systems.

22.1 - Supporting Equitable Opportunities for all, the Board will be asked to authorize the administration to enter into a purchase of services agreement with Ashland University to provide services for the Ashland Licensure programs for school year 2023-2024. Due to an increase in vacancies in high needs licensure areas, we are requesting funds to assist with staffing needs. This project will allow selected current Columbus City Schools teachers to receive tuition assistance in the Ashland University program. Teachers in this cohort will be selected through a rigorous application process intended to identify equity-centered teachers.
