Senior Spotlight: Beechcrofts Rosean Burns Secures Full-Ride Athletic Scholarship to Ohio Dominican University
May 30, 2024 — Ever since he first laced up his cleats and sprinted across the neighborhood field as a child, Rosean Burns dreamed of achieving greatness in football. Now, as a senior at Beechcroft High School, that dream has become a reality. Burns has earned a full-ride athletic "Panther Promise" scholarship to Ohio Dominican University for his exceptional football skills, marking a significant milestone in his athletic career.
"My first experience with Burns was coaching against him," said Randy Clarkson, assistant basketball and football coach at Beechcroft. "He made plays all over the field, on offense and defense, and was one of the hardest hitters out there. You could tell that he was a very talented young man."
Burns' passion for athletics began at a young age and has remained unwavering throughout his grade school years. When he first picked up a football, Burns displayed a natural talent and dedication to the sport. His journey from a young enthusiast to a scholarship athlete is a testament to his hard work and perseverance.
Burns has been a standout football and basketball team player at Beechcroft High School. His commitment and versatility in athletics have made him a beloved figure among his peers and coaches. Burns attributes much of his success to his strong relationships with his coaches at Beechcroft.
"I think sports help with character, determination, and his competitive side," said Humphrey Simmons, former head football and basketball coach at Beechcroft. "To me, that's all the things that you need to help push you further in life. [Burns] will have pitfalls in life, just like in the game; he will have to figure out how to make that next play."
Beechcroft's athletic program has been a transformative force in shaping Burns into the exceptional athlete he is today. His coaches have not only honed his skills but also instilled in him the values of teamwork, discipline, and perseverance. These qualities, nurtured on the field, have been pivotal in Burns' development and will continue to guide him as he transitions to collegiate athletics, inspiring hope in the potential of every student-athlete.
As Burns prepares to embark on his next chapter at Ohio Dominican University, his coaches look forward to the opportunities. His full-ride athletic scholarship reflects his hard work and determination and sets the stage for a promising future in collegiate football and beyond.
"Coach Randy and Coach Simmons, they put it in my head [that I] can go somewhere and be great," Burns said. "[They taught me about] hard work and dedication, believed in me, and told me I could do it."
Beechcroft and the Columbus City Schools community proudly congratulate Rosean Burns on his outstanding achievement. His success is a source of inspiration for all students, proving that with passion, dedication, and the right support, dreams can indeed become reality.
