Lockhart joins CCS after a distinguished career in IT leadership, where he has consistently demonstrated his ability to drive technological advancement in complex environments. His experience includes leading large-scale system deployments, vendor negotiations, and developing strategies that align with business objectives while ensuring robust security measures.
Lockhart has previously served as the Director of Technology for Princeton City School District in Cincinnati since 2015. During his tenure, he is recognized for his ability to balance the needs of technology innovation with the importance of security. His leadership will be critical in guiding the district through the challenges and opportunities of an increasingly digital world.
"I am honored to join Columbus City Schools as the Chief Information Officer," said Lockhart. Together, we will build a future-ready district that empowers every student to succeed in the digital age as a citizen in a global community."
Lockhart’s journey began in Columbus as a teenager, when he moved from Warren, OH, to start a new chapter. Over the years, he put down roots, raised his family, and found a home in the Columbus community. His two children proudly attended Columbus Public Schools, going through Avalon Elementary, Indianola Elementary, and Crestview Middle School. Now, Lockhart is overjoyed to return to the city that shaped him, taking on a role with Columbus City Schools where he can give back to the community that has been so integral to his life. For Lockhart, coming back isn’t just a career move—it’s a heartfelt homecoming to a city that means the world to him.
His previous roles include:
- Director of Technology, Princeton City School District
- Network Administrator, Worthington Schools
- Communications Chief, U.S. Army
Lockhart is known for his ability to balance the demands of technological innovation with the practical needs of an educational organization. His leadership will be essential as the district addresses critical challenges, such as closing the digital divide, modernizing IT infrastructure, and enhancing cybersecurity to protect sensitive data.
"Digital equity and cybersecurity are two of the most pressing issues we face today," added Lockhart. "My focus will be on implementing solutions that close the digital divide and safeguard our systems so that our students and educators can confidently use technology to enhance learning without fear of disruption."
Columbus City Schools is excited to welcome Christopher Lockhart and looks forward to the positive impact he will have on the district’s technology initiatives.
