The Transportation Department held its 1st Annual Records Road-eo Day at the Moler Transportation Center
The Transportation Department held its 1st Annual Records Day Road-eo on October 23, 2024 at the Moler Transportation Center. This was an engagement effort designed to bring the staff together, build friendly skills competition between the centers, and spark enthusiasm for competing in the upcoming spring Road-eo.
There were six teams that competed for bragging rights. One team consisted of four supervisors and two bus aides. The other teams were from Fort Hayes Regular Center, Fort Hayes Special Center, Frebis Center, Moler Center, and Morse Rd Center. Each team included four bus drivers and two bus aides. Staff also participated as judges, scorekeepers, tabulation members, and other support roles. The event was well-attended as staff shuttled in from each center, brought bagged chairs to sit and cheer on their team during the multiple challenges.
The Road-eo was an abbreviated version of the Regional and State Road-eo skills test held every spring for school bus drivers. The transportation skills tests for drivers and supervisors consisted of: a written test, left side pick-up, railroad crossing, right side drop-off, right turn, serpentine forward and back, diminishing clearance, stop line, and pre-trip bus inspection. The aides also had a written test and competed in a wheelchair obstacle course, a bus lift and straps competition, and a wheelchair inspection.
While aides are not represented in the national event, activities were created to provide them with opportunities to practice the skills that support students and drivers. The winner this year was none other than the Morse Rd Transportation Center, with driver Erica Dia being the highest scorer!
