CCS Hosts Safety and Security Summit Ahead of First Day
August 15, 2023 -- As students and staff prepare to enter school buildings on Wednesday, August 23, the District Safety and Security team is stepping up their training ahead of the new school year.
Earlier this month, Safety and Security personnel, District leadership, and school administrators gathered for the second annual Safety and Security Summit held at Mifflin High School. Topics of discussion included District guardrails and guidelines, best security practices, and training led in partnership with Columbus Police.
“Our number one goal is to protect our students, our staff, and our communities nearby,” said Director of Safety and Security Christopher Baker.
Columbus Police Officers Rick Hannah, Chad Knode, and Sargeant Keith Baker led personnel through the Civilian Response to Active Shooter Events (CRASE) Training. The interactive and dynamic training provides strategies, guidance, and a proven plan for surviving an active shooter/active aggressor event or other critical incident.
Baker adds 16 Safety and Security Specialists to his team totaling 112 personnel in school buildings this school year. Baker hopes that the specialists' presence in the school will build a strong relationship between the students and staff so that when they see something, they can say something to reduce potential events or incidents from occurring.
