Office of General Counsel

The Office of General Counsel provides direct, professional legal counsel and representation for the Superintendent, Board of Education, Treasurer, Internal Auditor, and District departments. It assists the Superintendent and Board in the legal performance of their duties and the fair and just discharge of their obligations to students, staff and Board authorized representatives.
The Office of General Counsel also oversees the District's property and casualty insurance and claims handling functions, and the District’s Compliance Office, which investigates allegations of unlawful discrimination, harassment and relation, Title IX violations, and non-compliance with Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act.
The Office of General Counsel manages litigation and conducts oversight of special counsel on a variety of matters. The office works with special counsel to resolve property tax valuation disputes. It also oversees public record requests. The Office also reviews and approves contracts, agreements, and MOU’s for District departments.

We strive to achieve results that exceed the expectations of the Columbus City School District and its Board of Education by providing accurate and timely advice and information in order for the District to achieve its stated mission, goals and purpose.
