Family Engagement

  • Family Engagement serves as a partner in student achievement by supporting the "whole child." We work to build capacity so that every student and their families thrive.

What We Do

  • Provides professional learning opportunities for CCS Administration and staff to build and sustain academic-oriented relationships with families.

Improves the effectiveness and frequency of information shared with families and provide resources to support learning at home.

Implements data-driven decision-making to understand the needs of CCS families to align our work better.

    Family Ambassador Program

The Office of Engagement plays a crucial role in connecting schools with families and communities. Our Family Ambassadors (FAs) serve as a liaison, providing families with access to vital academic resources.

The work is based on Board of Education Policy #2111, which follows Dr. Joyce Epstein's Six Types of Family Involvement guidelines. It also adheres to the Office of Engagement guidelines, which align with the National PTA Standards of Family-School Partnership.

    The standards are:

    • Welcoming All Families

    • Communicating Effectively

    • Supporting Student Success

    • Sharing Power

    • Speaking Up for Every Child

    • Collaborating with the Community

    • Volunteer Opportunities

  • Bilingual Engagement Liaisons

Bilingual Engagement Liaisons allow Columbus City Schools to expand its engagement efforts to non-English speaking communities. Roughly one in every six students comes from a home where English is not the primary language spoken by the family.

    FamU (Family University)

FamU brings the classroom to the community. We believe that education extends the four walls of a classroom; it thrives in the living rooms, kitchen tables, and shared experiences of families. FamU reaches beyond textbooks, embracing the richness of life's lessons, and empowering parents to become architects of their children's futures at Columbus City Schools.
