Three New Principalships Announced for the 2023-24 School Year
August 4, 2023 -- Columbus City Schools is pleased to announce three new principalships ahead of the 2023-24 school year. These new leaders join a group of eight new principals, previously announced last month.
Columbus Scioto High School
Cary Cordell will serve as the new principal of Columbus Scioto High School.
Cordell has worked with Columbus City Schools for nearly 30 years. He started with the District as a substitute teacher. Since then, he has served the District in a variety of leadership roles. Most recently, Cordell worked as the assistant principal at Buckeye Middle School. At Buckeye, he worked to incorporate research-based teaching practices to improve student learning outcomes.
Cordell holds a Bachelor of Science in Education and a Bachelor of Science in Psychology from Otterbein University. He holds a Masters in Educational Leadership from Ashland University.
Yorktown Middle School
Brittney McCord will serve as the new principal of Yorktown Middle School.
McCord has worked with Columbus City Schools for a decade. She started her career with CCS as a mathematics teacher and has served as a leadership intern for several buildings. McCord will not need to travel far for her new role, as she currently serves as Yorktown’s assistant principal. McCord plans to bring an equity-focused lens to her leadership of Yorktown to ensure student-first outcomes.
McCord holds a Bachelor of Science in Mathematics from Cumberland University and a Master of Art in Educational Administration from The Ohio State University.
Livingston Elementary School
Jeffry Mayzum will serve as the new principal of Livingston Elementary School.
Mayzum has worked with Columbus City Schools for almost 25 years. He started his career with CCS as a K-5 physical education teacher. Since then, Mayzum has served as a leadership intern for multiple buildings around the District.
Most recently, Mayzum worked as the Region 3 Data Leadership Intern, where he assisted principals and teachers with understanding and accessing their data.
Mayzum holds a Bachelor of Science in Sport and Leisure studies from The Ohio State University. He received a Master of Education in Physical Education from OSU and holds an Administration License from Ashland University.
