Office of Student Assistance

  • The Office of Student Assistance is comprised of three Divisions: the Division of Students & Families in Transition, the Division of the Hearing Office, and the Division of Adjustment Transfers & Home Education (Homeschool).

The Division of Students & Families in Transition promotes a seamless transition into and between schools for CCS students who are experiencing homelessness as well as those involved with the foster care or juvenile justice systems. A team of staff are assigned to each student group in order to quickly address each student(s) unique circumstances. Staff assist in removing academic and non-academic barriers.

The Division of the Hearing Office handles suspension appeals and all student behavioral incidents resulting in a recommendation for expulsion from the District. Hearing Officers act as the Superintendent’s Designee and all decisions made are final.

The Division of Adjustment Transfers & Home Education handles all adjustment transfer requests for families seeking to move their student from one Columbus City School building to another due to extreme safety and/or court involved situations related to safety.  Home Education staff ensure that families who wish to home-school their student(s) and notify the District of their intent in a timely manner, receive an Acknowledgement Receipt from the Superintendent within 14 days of their notification (ORC 3321.042).
