Visual Art Curriculum
Columbus City Schools supports a structured visual art curriculum that ensures students not only engage creatively but also develop technical proficiency, historical understanding, and critical analysis skills that are foundational to artistic growth. In the visual arts classroom, students learn the principles of design, the use of materials and media, and techniques of visual expression. This hands-on learning cultivates problem-solving, perseverance, and innovation as students experiment, revise and refine their work. Students learn to interpret, evaluate, and create visual messages responsibly and effectively, preparing them for both academic success and participation in a global workforce that values creativity and design thinking.
Columbus City Schools educators utilize both the Ohio Fine Arts Model Curriculum for Visual Art along with the district visual art curriculum documents. Links to these documents are provided on this page.
