Christopher Carson, CPA, CFE, CGFM

Chris Carson joined the OIA team in March 2024.  He has over 38 years of internal and external audit experience where he audited governmental, not-for-profit, and for-profit entities.  Chris graduated from The Ohio State University with a Bachelor of Science degree in Business Administration, majoring in accounting.  He is a certified Public Accountant (CPA), Certified Fraud Examiner (CFE), and a Certified Governmental Financial Manager (CGFM).

Chris’ work experience includes time as a staff auditor and auditor-in-charge with the Auditor of State’s Office for six years.  He also performed work as an internal audit supervisor at the Ohio Department of Human Services and later moved to managing external audits as the assistant chief when the agency expanded and changed its name to the Ohio Department of Job & Family Services.  When Medicaid was separated as its own stand-alone state agency he was made chief of the external audit area that audited Medicaid providers. 

Prior to coming to Columbus City Schools, Chris performed internal audit work for a private Medicaid managed care plan for two years. 

Chris is a member of the Institute of Internal Auditors (IIA), the Association of Government Accountants (AGA), and the Association of Certified Fraud Examiners (ACFE).
